Uchinoura & Kishira

Uchinoura is a vibrant fishing town, so you are guaranteed the freshest sushi and sashimi at one of the local restaurants such as Amimoto. The beach is nice and during the summer you can see bioluminescent plankton in the water at night.

Uchinoura is also known for its Rocket Center which launched the successful Hayabusa spacecraft in 2003 and the first Epsilon rocket in the summer of 2013.

Further south of Uchinoura is the village of Kishira. Here you will also find a nice stretch of beach, which is the location for the annual religious ceremony Nagoshi-don. Further south in an even more remote area is another wonderful beach, Hetsuka.
